"So Good So Far" - Lloyds and Phillips - www.lloydsandphilips.com - Listen to sample tracks and purchase CD
This project was recorded live in the studio. It’s reminiscent of radio’s hey-day and those performances from the 1940s and 50s when famous artists like Perry Como and Tony Mottola would broadcast and record live. There was no opportunity to fix mistakes or re-tune vocals like there is today. There was an honesty and complete sincerity of the moment with true musical and emotional intimacy.
‘SO GOOD SO FAR’ is Lloyds and Phillips’ first collection of classic songs and two original tunes using this approach. The recording of each track had both performers in one room with two microphones, singing and playing ‘direct to tape’. Part of the magic and character of this recording comes from the classic sound of the guitars used, which were built in the 1940s and 50s. These include Art’s father's Gibson L-12, 1941 model, and his grandfather's Gibson A-50 mandolin from 1952. On a few selections, additional vocal and musical parts were added to broaden the soundscape. This project is dedicated to both their fathers.
